Timo Werner has ended his 12-match goal drought as he scored in Chelsea comfortable 4-0 past League 2 side Morecambe at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Mason Mount, who clock 22nd today, put the host ahead with a fine 25-yeard strike after a cross from Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea have their second goal of the game just before half-time, and it’s their expensive German duo who have linked up for this one.

Hakim Ziyech hangs a ball towards the back post, Havertz rises to meet it and nod the ball across goal and Timo Werner is there to prod home.

The German ace has bungled an early chance to raise fears that Frank Lampard’s plan could backfire, but the 24-year-old later tapped home the easiest of finishes, much to Chelsea’s collective relief.

Hudson-Odoi slotted home in style to put the Blues 3-0 up after the break, the England international latching on to Ziyech’s lofted pass for a well-worked finish.

The shape of this goal will have pleased Frank Lampard no end, with one winger in Hakim Ziyech drifting into the number 10 berth and the other in Hudson-Odoi running beyond the central forward.

Another prolonged period of dominance without end-product followed until German star Kai Havertz nodded in captain Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross at the death.

Chelsea will be aiming to build on their winning
